Getting the Ball (or Lens) Rolling

Last week, I shared the engagement photos I took for my friends and my announcement that I am starting a photography business.  Over the course of the past two weeks, I have spent every second of my free time (some of which when I should have been doing homework) researching, planning, and building my brand.  It took a long time to come up with a name because my first and middle names (Sarah Ann) are extremely common and already taken as photography names, and I was hesitant to use my last name because it’s hard to pronounce when reading it, but no other name would fit.  I decided that it is my name and I should be proud of it!

My new photography website is Sarah Syhakhoun Photography found here.  I would love if you would go check it out, especially if you life in the Twin Cities area.  Since I am just starting out, I am offering very affordable rates, so please send me an email if you are interested!

I can’t wait to update my new website with more photos!  This journey has been, so far, extremely thrilling as well as terrifying, but I know it’s right, so I’m going to keep chugging along.

  1. Wow - I've been behind on my blog readings and am just now catching up and it looks like I missed some awesome updates! Beautiful photos and congrats on starting your own photography business!! That is very exciting! (and scary!) As one freelancer to another, doing taxes for your freelance work is no fun - ughhh. But it's totally worth it. ;)

  5. Hi :-)

I just found your blog. Your photography website look beautiful and I was wondering if you did this all by yourself or if there is someone who offers this? I'm asking because I'd like to start my own business as well but have a heard time creating my own site. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks so much and I can't wait to see more on both of your blogs :-)

  6. Hi Jeane,

    Thanks for stopping by!

I really appreciate your compliment on my photography website. I spent many hours getting it to look just right. I host my website on http://www.bluehost.com and purchased a Wordpress theme from http://www.prophotoblogs.com/, which I then used Photoshop Elements to create the graphics that make the header and other elements of the theme. I bought a pattern on Etsy licensed for commercial use that I made into the background. You can pay people to create a custom theme, but it can be expensive. I have spent many years using trial and error to design websites, so I have some know-how to use, but I also learned a lot through searching online and by looking at other websites. You can also buy themes for Prophoto or general Wordpress themes to customize your design as well, but they won't be unique to just your website.

    Hope that long answer helped!

  7. Wow!!! I am very impressed that you did all this on your own!!!

Thank you SO much for your answer. I really appreciate it! I know what I'm doing the coming weeks from now on :-)

Ugh, and sorry for the misspelling in my previous post. I just re-read it and it looks awful ;-)

Thank you for stopping by! I am a little crazy sometimes (it's probably the red hair), but I would really appreciate if you would leave a comment. I love getting to know my readers and reading what everyone is thinking! - Mrs. Ruffled Flats
