In case you are interested (who am I kidding – I’ll blab and ramble on and on whether you are interested or not), here are some of our first year Christmas traditions that we hope to continue every year, especially when we have little redheaded Asian babies running around:
- Make a video of ourselves putting up the Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving. See this year’s video here.
- Make a video with a recap of the year and ten things we are thankful for. This will be posted later this week.
- Drive around to look at the Christmas lights.
- Hold a Christmas family movie night. I couldn’t find all of our Christmas movies (the horror) but I’m sure they’ll show up eventually.
- Buy one present for ourselves for Christmas that will enrich our marriage in some way. This year, we’re thinking of maybe a book on marriage, a cookbook, or dance lessons.
- Buy a special ornament that symbolizes what we did that year. Read about this year’s here.
- Read Christmas stories.
- Set goals for the next year. I’ll be posting a video of our goals before the end of the month.
- Send a holiday card. Read about this year’s Christmas card here.
- Make Christmas cookies.
- Take a family photo in front of the tree. We didn’t plan to match the tree!
We have come up with some other traditions as well we might start doing once we have kids or maybe next year when I’m not finishing projects and taking finals the week before Christmas. I’m so excited to be involved in making traditions and executing them and look forward to expanding and growing these traditions over the years.
What are your favorite Christmas traditions?
Love these traditions! We have some of the same ones - including getting a marriage-enriching gift/book each year.
ReplyDeleteYou two are so cute! I love the movie, The Family Stone... it's awesome!
ReplyDeleteWe're on our second year together and we'll be traveling this year... so it's hard to say if any of last year's traditions will stick. :) But Christmas movies are a must..same with reading the Christmas story.
Traditions are a wonderful way of creating memories and telling a story of your life.
ReplyDeleteMy traditions are decorating and the confections/food made for the holiday. I love all of yours that you selected!
Hi Mrs. Redhead in Ruffled Flats,
ReplyDeleteI'm Mrs. Brunette in Pink Flats :)
I stumbled upon your lovely site by chance and wanted to take a moment to let you know how much I like it. We don't share countries, languages nor religious beliefs, but we are in the end, human and feel. And this blog just exudes tons of love. That's why I keep coming back. I hope you and Mr. Converse Sneakers enjoy this Holiday season.
XOs,
Carla
Well Sarah Patrick and I have some of the same traditions. I am starting some new ones this year with the little guy. We are reading Christmas stories, I always bake cookies, and we also always take a Christmas picture of the family! I don't know about you but my pictures always end up in a box full of other pictures so this year I decided to start a Christmas scrap book! Yeah really excited=) I want to be able to look back on each and every Christmas! Also doing a Holloween one for our little man and future children=) Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteWe definitely drive around to see Christmas lights as part of the Tacky Light Tour. Ever since we found www.tackylighttour.com we start our tour online each year before venturing out.
